Job Summary:
The Senior Architectural Technologist position will include specialized knowledge in exterior building envelope systems and expertise in high-performance building practices for sustainability certifications such as LEED, Net Zero, or similar. As a Senior Architectural Technologist, you will play a key role in our architectural team, focusing on the design, implementation, and review of building envelope systems that contribute to sustainable and energy-efficient projects.Additionally, occasional review of construction work in the field and shop drawing reviews will be part of your responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of high-performance exterior building envelope systems that contribute to sustainability certifications such as LEED, Net Zero, or similar.
- Collaborate with the architectural design team to integrate sustainable building envelope systems seamlessly into the overall design concept.
- Conduct detailed assessments and analyses of project requirements, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and sustainability certification criteria.
- Prepare comprehensive technical drawings, specifications, and construction details related to high-performance building envelope systems.
- Utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and other relevant tools to create accurate and coordinated architectural documentation.
- Stay updated on the latest industry trends, advancements, and best practices related to high-performance building envelope systems and sustainable design.
- Provide guidance on material selection, building envelope configurations, and system performance to achieve sustainability goals.
- Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and suppliers to ensure the successful integration, installation, and performance of sustainable building envelope systems.
- Review construction work in the field periodically to verify compliance with design intent, sustainability goals, and quality standards.
- Conduct shop drawing reviews to ensure accuracy, adherence to design specifications, and compatibility with sustainable building practices.
- Provide technical support during construction, addressing any design-related issues or modifications required for sustainable building envelope systems.
- Mentor and guide junior architectural technologists and other team members in sustainable building practices and high-performance building envelope systems.
- Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to develop and monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables related to sustainable building envelope systems.
- Participate in project meetings, construction site visits, and other site-related activities as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Architectural Technology, Building Science, or a related field.
- Extensive experience (typically 8+ years) working as an Architectural Technologist, with a focus on exterior building envelope systems.
- In-depth knowledge of building envelope design principles, construction techniques, and relevant codes and standards.
- Proficiency in architectural software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar BIM platforms.
- Strong understanding of sustainable design principles and energy-efficient building practices.
- Familiarity with various exterior building envelope materials, including cladding systems, glazing systems, roofing systems, insulation, and waterproofing.
- Experience in conducting building envelope performance testing, such as air leakage, water infiltration, and thermal analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and provide effective solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Professional certifications, such as Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or equivalent, would be advantageous.
- A portfolio demonstrating previous work and expertise in exterior building envelope systems is highly desirable.
