Job Summary:

The Accessibility Consultant will be responsible for providing expertise and guidance on accessibility regulations and standards, specifically adhering to Ontario's accessibility laws and guidelines, including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Additionally, the candidate should possess certification from the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) program.

The role involves ensuring that our healthcare facilities are designed and constructed to be fully accessible to all users. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accessibility consulting, extensive knowledge of accessibility codes and guidelines in Ontario, and experience working on healthcare projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on accessibility regulations and standards in Ontario, including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Building Code (OBC).
  • Review architectural plans and design documents to ensure compliance with Ontario's accessibility requirements.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other project team members to integrate accessibility features into healthcare facility designs, ensuring they align with Ontario's accessibility guidelines.
  • Conduct accessibility audits and inspections of existing healthcare facilities in Ontario to identify barriers and recommend improvements, following the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) program guidelines.
  • Assist in the development of accessibility reports and assessments for clients and stakeholders, incorporating RHFAC certifications where applicable.
  • Stay updated on changes to accessibility codes and guidelines in Ontario and ensure that projects adhere to the latest requirements.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of accessibility training programs for project teams and staff, emphasizing Ontario-specific regulations and RHFAC principles.
  • Provide technical support and expertise during the construction phase to ensure accessibility features are implemented correctly according to Ontario's guidelines and RHFAC criteria.
  • Participate in project meetings and liaise with clients and regulatory authorities in Ontario on accessibility-related matters.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in accessibility design for healthcare facilities, with a focus on Ontario's accessibility laws.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Accessibility, Universal Design, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in accessibility consulting, with a focus on healthcare projects and expertise in Ontario's accessibility laws and guidelines.
  • Certification from the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) program is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of accessibility regulations in Ontario, including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Building Code (OBC).
  • Experience in conducting accessibility assessments and audits following the RHFAC program.
  • Proficiency in using accessibility assessment tools and software.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare facility design and construction processes, with a focus on Ontario's accessibility requirements.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex accessibility concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
